Strange Season Continues with Loss at Home and Win on the Road A down and up weekend has Real San Jose still in playoff position...barely. With one week of regulation play left in the 2009 NPSL regular season RSJ holds the final spot and has control of their own destiny. That said the situation is anything but a "lock." (Photo: Eric Espinosa had a strong match for the RSJ defense in Sunday's shutout victory. Espinosa made his first start of the season as a defender in place of Anthony Abass who suffered a broken cheekbone against Southern Oregon during Saturday's loss.) [Read More...]

RSJ tied for Last Playoff Spot The playoff picture in the National Premier Soccer League Western Conference just got clearer over the weekend. In short, Real San Jose is tied with Salinas Samba for the 4th and final spot in the four team playoff. As a result this coming weekend could very well determine RSJ's post season position, if any. This all came about over the last weekend when RSJ fought back to gain a tie against the Samba and the Samba upsetting Bay Area Ambassadors the next day. Should RSJ make the playoffs, the dramatic comeback of June 21 could be the reason. While playing a man-down San Jose forced an away draw against the Samba. Hopes High After Toughest Weekend of 2009 It the toughest weekend of the season Real San Jose came away with one point out of six possible, but hopes are sky high going into the last four games of the regular National Premier Soccer League season. This optimism comes on the heel of a weekend in which the club played two matches in less than 24 hours against two tough opponents. On Saturday evening RSJ battled the red-hot Sonoma Sol to an exciting 1-1 draw and then played an away match the following afternoon losing to Bay Area Ambassadors 3-0 despite dominating the first half of that game. (Photo: Anthony Avalos has been a key reason Real San Jose is confident going into the final four games of the regular season.) [Read More...]
